Next FP3 Open House Sept. 12th

Join us Sunday, September 12th from 1pm to 3pm for our next Open House!

FP3 Open House Penthouse picTake a tour of the FP3 building to learn more about the award-winning architecture and how and why Boston-based architect, David Hacin, developed the design to adaptively reuse two existing warehouse structures and one new infill building to make FP3 the ideal example of mixing the old and the new in the historic Fort Point Channel neighborhood.

The merging of old and new come to fruition in the elegant lobby and art gallery space of FP3, where the walls, ceilings panels, and custom benches were all made from salvaged Douglas Fir beams and columns from the original building.

While you’re here, be sure to take a moment to view the current art exhibit featured in the FP3 gallery, an exhibit of creatures created by artist/ print maker Vicky Tomayko, or stop by Sportello for some yummy brunch or lunch by celebrity Chef Barbara Lynch on our ground floor!

Art New England Magazine’s Art Salon Series at FP3

You may be wondering, ‘What is an Art Salon?’

A salon is defined as “a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase their knowledge of the participants through conversation.”  Salons are commonly associated with the literary and philosophical movements in France during the 17th and 18th centuries.

An evening of cocktails and conversation with photographer Jack Dzamba.  View his exhibit and book, Paris in Boston.  The book is a collection of fine art photography, bringing to light the Parisian influence in so much of the art and architecture in Boston.

Did you know that the façade of the Boston Public Library is molded on that of the Bibliothèque Saint Genevieve in Paris?  Did you ever notice how much the Genzyme headquarters recalls Notre Dame in the evening?

This event is the premiere of Art New England Magazine’s new Art Salon Series as part of its Art Everywhere Project.  Cocktails will be provided by Cold River Vodka and Ambrosia Events and Catering.

Smooth Sailing for Fort Point Channel Public Docks & Programs

The Fort Point Channel’s revitalization should be ’smooth sailing’ from this point forward!

The Harbor Line Exemption legislation (originally filed by Senator Jack Hart of South Boston) was signed by Governor Deval Patrick on August 3, 2010 as part of the Watersheet Activation Plan, which was the 2003 winner of the American Planning Association’s Massachusetts Chapter for Comprehensive Planning, proposed by Friends of Fort Point Channel, Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, The Boston Harbor Association, and the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA).

The legislation is designed to improve public access to Boston’s Fort Point Channel through boating programs, increased water transportation, and touch-and-go-docks as part of Mayor Menino’s mission to transform the fifty acre land-and-water Fort Point area into Boston’s next great public space.  The Fort Point Channel is being touted as  the next “Boston Common”, with, of course, the added bonus of being on the water.  The Watersheet Activation Plan also calls for creative water-based uses, including small boat activities, performances, art installations, and special events and festivals, as well as public space to relax and enjoy the waterfront.

If you’ve visited the Fort Point area, you may have seen some of these goals already coming to fruition with events like synchronized sailing and various art installations on the water created by Fort Point area artists, such as the floating art installation, ‘House of Cards’ by Lisa Greenfield (photographed below).

With the passing of this legislation, you can expect to start seeing a lot more activity in the Fort Point Channel and the surrounding Fort Point area!

FP3 is proud to be part of the exciting changes that have been improving the Fort Point Channel and Boston Seaport neighborhoods.

Come see what all the buzz is about!  Stop by one of Barbara Lynch’s restaurants on our ground floor, take a tour of FP3, and become a resident of one of the most dynamic areas of Boston!

Check our Home Page for the latest announcement of upcoming Open Houses, or ‘Like’ our Facebook Page for Open House notices and information on special events hosted at FP3!  We’ve got a great schedule of events planned for the fall, so keep checking back for updates!  Recent events include art openings at the FP3 Art Gallery, Rooftop Yoga on one of our Penthouse Suite terraces, a Boston Pride Party, and more!

As you can see from the rendering of the Fort Point Channel as it appears in the Watersheet Activation Plan, the Channel will begin to see a lot more recreational boating and activities with the passing of this legislation!

Vicky Tomayko’s Exhibition in today’s Boston Globe

Vicky Tomayko is the latest artist to be featured in the art gallery at FP3.  Her collection of creatures will be on display and free for the public to view during regular business hours until October 9, 2010.  Some of Vicky’s work appeared in today’s Boston Globe.

Vicky’s art was reviewed by Cate McQuiad for the article.  In it, Cate notes:

“Her monotypes of monstrous creatures at FP3 are both comic and melancholy, and she has a vibrant color sense. Look at the drypoint monotype “St. John the Baptist as an Artist.’’ The squishy figure is, of course, headless, and he grips to his chest a pink, heart-shaped critter with one eye on a stalk and a protruding, forked tongue. The suggestion is that this artistic St. John speaks from his heart, but even when the heart speaks, you can’t entirely trust what it says.”

Vicky Tomayko Exhibit Featured in Stuff Magazine

The gallery at FP3 is currently featuring art created by Detroit-born, Cape Cod-based artist, Vicky Tomayko.  FP3 is proud to be hosting Vicky’s first-ever solo art show in Boston.

Stuff tonight notes that Vicky “takes inspiration from nature but imbues her landscapes with wit and weirdness, creating narrative worlds full of whimsical creatures — watchful forests, chubby antenna-eyed bipeds, friendly amoebas. Much of her recent work incorporates multiple printing techniques and focuses on liquid spaces.”

Art Salon at FP3

Get in touch with your inner Matisse at a salon?

Art Salons, prominent a century ago in Paris, are making a comeback in Boston at FP3!

In a stunning penthouse overlooking Fort Point Channel, Rita Fucillo, associate publisher of Art New England, is uniting tastemakers in art, fashion, and music to engage and be merry.  “I’ve been desperate to do this,’’ said Fucillo, who has filled a pair of vacant condominiums at posh complex FP3 with local art work. Salons start up next month. Visit www.bostonguide.com and www.artnewengland.com for more details.

Plugged In: Fort Point Channel

(styleboston) – Get Plugged In to Fort Point Channel, former industrial hub, now, home to much of Boston’s artist community. Tony Corey chats with Joanne Chang, the mastermind behind Flour Bakery + Café, the newest of which just opened in Cambridge. When Joanne Chang came to Fort Point they thought she was crazy. Now, Fort Point Channel is a creative, vibrant neighborhood, so close to downtown crossing, that on any given day it’s all abuzz.

Chang isn’t the only one who’s made her home there. Barbara Lynch’s food empire is based in Fort Point, Thompson Reuters spans an entire street and, of course, ADD Inc and Rue La La brighten the skyline.

What’s most compelling about living or working in Fort Point? According to ADD Inc.’s Fred Kramer – the people. He said, on any given day, walking down the street, you’re likely to bump into another creative soul, someone who’s young, up and coming, and part of the movement. When you walk down the street in Fort Point, you mingle with artists, designers, green urban planners and a whole lot of intellectuals.

If that doesn’t get you down to Fort Point, Joanne Chang’s cupcakes will! Not only do they “taste like air” according to Tony, but most of them are Vegan! Just like the neighborhood’s credo – there’s a little bit of something for everyone.

artSTRAND at FP3 – Don’t Miss It!

Have you seen the latest exhibit featured in the FP3 Lobby Gallery?  If you missed the opening reception in March, you can still visit and view this amazing, yet temporary, installation until April 30th!

The exhibition features work by artSTRAND members Bailey Bob Bailey, Paul Bowen, Breon Dunigan, Maryalice Johnston, Irene Lipton, Francis Olschafskie, Jim Peters, Anna Poor and Bert Yarborough.  Visit the artSTRAND website to learn more about this diverse group of artists and their other works.

The gallery at FP3 was recently featured by the Provincetown Banner, reminding residents to make the trip to Boston to support their local artists.  While you’re there to admire the art, take a moment to admire the unique ‘green’ lobby, too!

The FP3 lobby includes a formal entry, a central seating/concierge space and a large exhibition gallery.  The space is much larger than a typical residential lobby, which relates to the characteristically larger loft/ industrial spatial experiences in the Fort Point Channel District.  You can read more about the lobby at FP3 here.
