Lobby & GalleryFP3 Lobby

The optimal mix of elegance and convenience

The lobby at FP3 is an expression of the larger design concept of the building as well as a central organization point for the Residences.

The lobby is actually a series of 3 interlocking spaces that reach through the entire depth of the building allowing light, access and activity to flow from both ends.  The lobby includes a formal entry, a central seating/concierge space and a large exhibition gallery.  As a result the space is much larger than a typical residential lobby, which relates to the characteristically larger loft/ industrial spatial experiences in the Fort Point Channel District.

Continuing with the design intent of the upper 3 story addition, the most distinctive feature of the FP3 lobby is the folded wood paneling which envelops the main central seating/concierge space.  Milled locally from old-growth Douglas Fir beams reclaimed from the original timber framed buildings, the paneling is composed with a tight rhythm of narrow boards and subtly illuminated slotted apertures.  At the center, an uninterrupted concrete beam turns from low table surface at the wood-clad seating area, to tall bench as it continues down a ramp into the lower gallery space.  The gallery is to provide exhibition opportunity for Fort Point artists and will be home to three reclaimed wood benches built by Quentin Kelley, local furniture artist and craftsman.  The lobby furniture consists of modern classics from Florence Knoll, as well custom pieces designed by H+A.
