For the imagery Beck produces as an artist, she conducted extensive research in Niger, West Africa where she lived and traveled for many years. Her art involves the study of different aspects of the Nigerien landscape, the Djarma and Fulani cultures and the art forms they create. Through this study, she’s been committed to the advancement of abstraction, portraying concepts of ritual and tradition within the social structure of Nigerien culture.

The titles of Beck’s images and exhibitions are presented in the Djarma language. The Djarma people speak Djarma in Niger, West Africa. The titles she uses refer to different modes of expression, as well as the colorful and vibrant parts of the Nigerien culture. The titles give her imagery a sense of texture that allows the viewer to contemplate a possible meaning of the words in relation to the art she creates.

Beck’s drawings, paintings and mixed-media have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at galleries throughout the United States and abroad including Paris, France; Liverpool, England; London, England; Cardiff, Wales and, of course, Niger, West Africa.

Beck served as Professor of Art, Chair of the Art Department and was a faculty member at Concordia University in Irvine, CA for eleven years. There, she taught art honors, design, drawing, painting, printmaking and a senior art seminar. Her education combines the teaching of form in relation to content and her students are encouraged to develop distinct artistic methods through art history, field research and extensive travel.

Everyone knows that the Fort Point Neighborhood in Boston’s Seaport District is getting more desirable by the minute, and here is just one more sign. Jody Adams, renowned chef, restauranteur, author, world traveler, and contestent on Top Chef Masters, will soon be opening a new restaurant in the area, ”Trade at Atlantic Wharf.” The restaurant will feature Mediterranean fare influenced heavily by Spanish, Italian, and Greek cuisine. The dinner menu will include items such as roast chicken marinated in lemon, slow-cooked stuffed pork and braised beef short ribs, and grilled bluefish priced from $23 to $30.

This is certainly not Adams’ debut in Boston. Her restaurant, Rialto, located in Cambridge, is a perennial favorite and has received praise in both Gourmet and Food and Wine magazines.

The highly anticipated ”Trade at Atlantic Wharf” will add to the increasingly sophisticated allure of the Seaport District. The area’s posh and casual restaurants and nightlife have made it Boston’s coolest places to life. Stylish residences, such as FP3 (which is located just over the bridge from Trade), draw an intellectual, fun, diverse, and progressive crowd of well established professionals and artists alike.

If you are interested in information regarding FP3 Luxury Condominiums, please contact FP3 today!

Yesterday, on Monday March 14th, Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced that five important development projects for Boston moved forward in the review process at the Boston Redevelopment Authority board hearing on Sunday night. The projects will bring about 2,700 full and part time jobs and almost $437.6 million of private investment to the City of Boston. One of these projects will be located in the Innovation District, which will hopefully encourage more people to look for Boston luxury apartments and Boston luxury condos so they can get in on the action.

The BRA board approved the tentative designation of the American Seafood Exchange (ASE) project for the redevelopment of the Marine Industrial Park’s parcels M and N at 3 Dolphin Way. The new seafood procession and distribution center will restore the city as a fully functional, working seafood procession port and position it for growth in the 21st century. The ASE will revolutionize the way seafood is processed by bringing it from the ocean to consumers in record time using a new state-of-the-art facility that consists of a public display auction, cold storage/fresh transfer house, and public packing house. This new development integrates the latest industry technology, facilities and equipment with green building technology and a sustainable design that is aimed at meeting LEED certification.

There will be 300 union construction jobs created during the development stage, then 1,500 permanent jobs one the project is completed. The total project cost is estimated at $68.9 million, with $20.7 million in private equity funding.

“Boston is experiencing an ongoing economic recovery with improvement in the office market, strong retail sales and tremendous gains in residential real estate but even with this progress, we must not relent in our efforts to create jobs, encourage private investment and grow the tax base of our City.”

-Mayor Menino

The Boston Marine Industrial Park (BMIP) is a 191-acre industrial park located on the southeastern edge of the South Boston port-area. It is the largest Boston industrial park, encompassing more than 3.3 million square-feet of leasable building area lying less than one mile from the heart of downtown Boston and Logan International Airport. BMIP contains an active dry-dock, benefits from 9,300 linear feet of shoreline, and offers direct accessibility to transport by water, air, rail, and highway, providing excellent benefits for those living in FP3 condos and Boston waterfront apartments.

If you would like to find luxury lofts in Boston or a South Boston condo, please contact FP3 today to schedule a viewing. One our or knowledgeable agents would be happy to help you find a home in Boston’s Innovation District!b

Last week, Jia Moderne, which is located at the Boston Design Center, welcomed and introduced to Boston…for the first time ever…Beijing artist and designer JinR to an exclusive audience gathered for a seated dinner in one of our luxury penthouses.

Not only was JinR herself introduced to some of Boston’s most influential individuals, but her premium “Seat for T” Collection [which includes the strikingly tall and stylish, MING CHAIR, featured in the photo to the left], was unveiled for the first time in the United States as well! And the entire unveiling took place at FP3!

Just some of the guests checking out these amazing, one of a kind, hand-crafted chairs at FP3 last night are shown in the photo to the right (names from left to right):

Boldfacers’ Lisa Pierpont, guest of the evening, JinR [seated] and designer extraordinaire Daniela Corte

The Ming Chair is made of ebony stained Chinese hardwood with a startlingly high back of 2.31 meters.

All of the JinR chairs pictured here and more are available for purchase exclusively through Jia Moderne at the Boston Design Center. Visit their website for more information. [www.jiamoderne.com]

The amazing dinner was catered by The Catered Affair, who presented a four-course menu inspired by JinR’s recipes from her successful Green T Houses back in Beijing.

It truly was a spectacular evening and guests were blown away by the talented JinR and these one-of-a-kind chairs which are works of art themselves!

FP3′s Penthouse 3 is this week’s featured home in The Boston Courant‘s Real Estate Guide.

Reporter Lise Beane recently took a tour of the magnificent space and fell in love with the open concept, amazing views and sun-splashed bedrooms. She’s also a big fan of the neighborhood and its proximity to everything Boston has to offer.

Here’s an excerpt from the article:

“Just a short walk over the Congress Street Bridge from Boston’s high-end Harbor Front is a hip and happening water’s edge neighborhood brimming with art galleries, development and restaurants.

At the heartbeat of this revitalized Fort Point Channel area, FP3 is an American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) award-winning, new 92-residence condominium conversion and extension with sophisticated penthouses that evoke the new Institute of Contemporary Art. The building’s name, Fort Point Three or FP3, comes from the fact that it is comprised of two totally renovated historic warehouses conjoined with a brand new structure, then topped with penthouses.

Imagine an exciting, one-of-a-kind living space with soaring ceilings, expansive walls of glass showcasing skyscraper views of Boston and extraordinary private decks, so close to the ocean you can see and hear the seagulls. Each penthouse offers its own unique loft-style design.

Located at 346 Congress Street, the setting is at once past, present and smartly positioned for the future. “

The revitalization efforts made to the district over the last 3 decades, have been paying off; attracting trendy bars & restaurants, making Fort Point a popular tourist destination.

A recent USA Today Travel article spoke about the ongoing revitalization of the Fort Point Channel neighborhood.

The author of the article, Rodrique Ngowi, emphasizes the improvements made to this 55-acre landmark district abutting South Boston over the last 3 decades, noting that the revitalization efforts have been paying off and attracting trendy bars and restaurants and Fort Point is now becoming a popular tourist destination. Barbara Lynch‘s establishments on the ground floor of FP3 are on the short list of places to visit while in the Fort Point area:

Bartender John Gertsen of Drink at FP3

” Fort Point Channel’s culinary scene is booming too. Notable spots include three restaurants from chef Barbara Lynch: upscale Menton, where the standard prix fixe dinner menu is $95; Sportello (the Italian word for “counter”), specializing in simple Italian dishes; and Drink, a laid-back bar known for creative cocktails. “

Fort Point attracts families with amenities like the Boston Children’s Museum and fun activities planned by the Friends of Fort Point Channel and other organizations in the area.

The author spoke with Gabrielle Schaffner of Fort Point Arts Community, a neighborhood nonprofit group run by members of the creative community. She estimates there are currently about 300 artists live in the area now, making the Fort Point area one of the highest concentrations of artists in New England. Twice each year thousands of tourists are drawn to visit the neighborhood during the Fort Point Open Studios, in which area artist simultaneously host open houses allowing people to tour their workspace and purchase their art.

If you missed the fall Open Studios this year, you can still stop by the FP3 Gallery at 346 Congress Street during regular business hours and view our current installation featuring creative works by two local Fort Point Artists, Jeff Smith and David Moore.

Jeff Smith Artist Statement:

” The work in this show represents the coalescence of techniques and ideas I have been developing throughout my journey to create a genre of my own making in a dimension somewhere between 2 and 3.

My palate comprises reclaimed materials. The colors, patinas and often the shapes of the wood are as found. When I make a piece, I am creating a jigsaw puzzle in reverse and without a box. By creating sculpture from trash, I have invited the viewer to rethink what is or isn’t of value. As Marshall McLuhan said, the medium is the message. Trash has been my clay since I began sculpting 20 years ago.

When making a piece I am composing a story with overlapping scenes and abstract meanings. Much of my other sculptural work is physically interactive and kinetic. These pieces are intellectually kinetic.

When viewed these pieces are atmospheric forays into the subconscious rather than representational. If music, they would be instrumentals. The lyrics are what the viewer creates in his own mind. ”

David Moore, Ceide Field XXXV, 2009, oil/linen, 60” x 42”

David Moore Artist Statement:

” I have been painting about the use of line and color for more than 30 years. These paintings are not about a verbal experience as words can only provide a threshold for your entry. Line is blurred into meaning.

My paintings have evolved from representational scenes of urban structures, cloud formations, tree textures, and water studies, to paintings of abstract monochrome grids and curvilinear structures. Saturated color, repeated linear markings, and glowing nuanced surfaces have been essential to my concept of “obsessive abstraction”.

The Ballinglen Series is inspired by travels in Ireland and a residency at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Ballycastle, County Mayo, Ireland. Upon returning to the U.S. with a suitcase full of works on paper, I began a series of large oil paintings entitled “Ceide Field”. Measuring up to 60 inches and just off-square, and smaller oil studies, the paintings parallel the Irish landscape through abstract spatial loops and repeated mark-making.

Influenced by the peat bogs of the “Ceide Field” County Mayo, the coastal rock formations in Easky, County Sligo, the Slieve League cliffs of County Donegal, and the landscape of the Burren, County Clare, this work continues my exploration of the daily ritual of place, realized in paint by dramatic lines, gesture, and color. Line, color, and gesture is used to create micro/macro metaphors of topographical and biological synapses in the series of paintings entitled “Ceide Field”. “
